Can it be un-done?
Gastric bypass revision can be done, but it isn't the easiest of tasks. Many surgeons who perform gastric bypass surgery will flat out REFUSE to undo it.
A gastric bypass revision is a very complicated task, and many surgeons honestly just don't want to deal with it. I have not encountered many people who have wanted it revised, only one as a matter of fact, but it has been done.
There are a few reasons for wanting to get the procedure reversed, but the main one is when a person stretches their stomach back out. It kills me when I hear of people doing this, all that time, effort, and money down the drain. You can "fool" your body if you really try to, and you can "beat" gastric bypass surgery if you put your mind to it. If in fact you do want to have a gastric bypass revision you will most likely have to go for a drive, as there are not people leaping out of their chairs to do the procedure.
Another reason for wanting to get a revision is a staple line breakdown. Most people who pop staples out of place opt to have them put back in, not to undo the procedure. This is a personal choice and one that should be considered carefully. In the end it will ALWAYS be up to you to decide what is best. Never let anyone convince you to do something you know deep down you don't want to do. A gastric bypass revision usually involves a disassembly of the roux-en-Y limb of the bypass and creation of a passage between the small gastric pouch and your stomach. The revision type procedures are very challenging and are substantially higher risk than the original procedure that you went through.
